Do you travel with your furry friend? The Eyre Peninsula can be very pet-friendly! So, we’ve put together a list of places you may want to take your four-legged friend for some inspiration.
- Take the dog for a walk on North Shields Beach
Not far from Port Lincoln is the little hamlet of North Shields, and its 6.2km sand beach. Not only are their toilets available for the humans, but you can let your dog off leash for a swift run!
As North Shields is just 10-minute drive from the Lincoln CBD, it’s also a great way to get out of the hustle and bustle of the ‘city’.
- Puff out the pooches with a run up Polda Rock – it’s great for filing down those nails too!
Exactly what it says on the tin: let the dogs run free to the top of Polda Rock near Wudinna, where you’ll also be able to make use of the picnic facilities in the reserve. It’s a beautiful spot to kick back and relax.
You can also walk or ride the 8km trail to Polda from Wudinna or follow the 2km trail around the base of the rock.
- Wine and dine at the Boston Hotel
Overlook picturesque Boston Bay from the foreshore of Port Lincoln from Hotel Boston’s shaded alfresco area and enjoy a delicious meal of local produce and a drink all while hanging out with your best four-legged friend.
Sounds like the perfect lunch stop to us!
- Explore Mundy’s Reserve & Murray’s Point
Still in Port Lincoln, pop out to Murray’s Point and let the dogs explore off the leash.
- Camp at Farm Beach
Camp the night at Farm Beach, a 22-minute drive from Coffin Bay and a popular spot with locals and visitors alike. And it will be a hit with your pup too! It’s all swimming, splashing and exploring in the sun.
The humans might like to drop a line in the water and catch a feed, too.
- Visit Oyster HQ after following the Oyster Walk
And in Coffin Bay itself, you can enjoy the sunset and some delicious oysters with your pooch from the deck at Oyster HQ – though we don’t recommend sharing them, the dog won’t appreciate them nearly enough!
Follow the Oyster Walk along the foreshore of Coffin Bay beforehand to make an enjoyable afternoon. Just remember to keep the dog on a leash, and they aren’t allowed in Kellidie Bay Conservation Park.
- Venus Bay Tourist Park for pet friendly stays
On the west coast, call in to the Venus Bay Tourist Park (in Venus Bay no less) for a pet friendly stay that’s right on the waterfront. They also have budget cabins that allow pets, so it’s not just for those camping or in a van!
You’ll just need to get approval from the manager when you book.
As you can see, the Eyre Peninsula has varying rules on where dogs can go, and whether they need to be leashed.
Your best bet is to check the rules for the place you’re going, as some of them are quite specific.
For example, did you know dogs are only allowed off-leash on the Port Lincoln foreshore before 8.30am or after sunset, and must be leashed any other time?
So keep an eye out for the signs!
Dogs are also totally prohibited in the Eyre Peninsula’s national parks.
Remember to pick up after your pets wherever you go and keep them under control when in public places.
